About us

Collaborating Against Poverty (CAP) Liberia is a cutting-edge non-profit organization dedicated to promoting school health programs by increasing awareness of Sexual Gender-Based Violence, Contraceptives and Family Planning Rights and Substance Abuse in Liberia, providing primary and emergency care to underserved communities working to achieve the SDG #17 by building partnerships with similar organizations and subsequently implementing community projects in underserved neighborhoods.

Our mission is to achieve Sustainable Development Goal #17 by forging partnerships with like-minded organizations and executing community projects in areas that lack essential services.  CAP was officially established in 2022, although it has been operating since August 2020. It was founded when leaders from various organizations came together through focus group discussions, conducted research, identified common gaps within Liberian local non-profit organizations, and proposed solutions. This led to the establishment of CAP with the aim of fostering partnerships among civil servants and youth organizations in Liberia.

Our primary objective is to bridge the gap in national health corridors. To achieve this, we focus on raising awareness on sexual gender-based violence, substance abuse, and establishing emergency care programs and enhancing the relationship between nurses and patients through various motivational initiatives and award programs. As an active NGO, we are dedicated to not just planning, but also implementing hands-on projects to effectively accomplish our goals. This requires meticulous planning, effective communication, and extensive local involvement for each project. In addition to collaborating with similar organizations to achieve the remaining sixteen SDGs in Liberia and raising awareness on SGBV and substance abuse issues, CAP operates at two main levels:

1. Primary Level

2. Tertiary Level

At the primary level, CAP equips secondary school students with basic first aid knowledge and practices to improve WASH sectors, SGBV and substance abuse advocacy, health education and manage an injured casualty till professional health care providers arrive (Implementing the Davis Foundation Project for Peace>Empowering Students: First Aid Training in Secondary Schools – Collaborating Against Poverty (cap-liberia.org)). Through our Secondary School First Aid Ambassador Program, we have equipped more than 185 students with basic first aid knowledge and hands-on practices (https://cap-liberia.org/2024/07/07/empowering-future-leaders-with-life-saving-skills/). These first aid ambassadors are actively leading health educational programs, mental health supports, as well as WASH activities on their respective campuses leading to increase in school attendance for girls. At the tertiary level, CAP is enhancing the relationship between nurses and patients through various motivational initiatives and award programs. Through our Nurse Excellence Award Program, CAP recognizes and celebrates the achievements of nurses by honoring those who have demonstrated clinical excellence, high levels of patient satisfaction, outstanding leadership, and community service (Nurse Excellence Award Project in Montserrado County, Liberia – Collaborating Against Poverty (cap-liberia.org)). Exceptional nurses who provide outstanding care to patients were recognized and rewarded in various healthcare facilities throughout the district. These remarkable individuals received not only accolades such as beautiful sculptures, Honoree pins, and certificates, but also international recognition for their remarkable achievements. (https://cap-liberia.org/2024/05/07/nurse-excellence-award-program/) These prestigious prizes were generously provided by our esteemed partner, the Daisy Foundation, who evaluates the nurses-patients’ care data from our partnered facilities.

In addition to collaborating with similar organizations to achieve the remaining sixteen SDGs in Liberia, we are dedicated to not just planning, but also implementing hands-on projects to effectively accomplish our goals. This requires meticulous planning, effective communication, and extensive local involvement for each project.
