Improved sanitation and advocacy for sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) are important for empowering girls in Liberian schools. Access to clean toilets and menstrual hygiene products ensures that girls can manage their periods with dignity, reducing absenteeism and school dropout rates. Advocacy for SRHR educates girls about their bodies, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions and prevent early pregnancies. These combined efforts foster a safer, healthier school environment and promote gender equality by addressing barriers that disproportionately affect girls’ education and well-being and contribute to long-term social and economic development in Liberia.
Through the US Community Exchange Program, CAP conducted two-day EmpowerHer to Lead training with a dynamic group of adolescent girls from three schools in Paynesville! These young leaders are stepping up to shape the future of their communities.
our first day focused on key areas essential to their development as future leaders, including:
1. Life Skills for Adolescent Leaders: Building self-awareness, decision-making, and communication skills to lead with confidence.
2. Introduction to Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRHR): Equipping the girls with vital knowledge about their bodies, rights, and health.
3. Early Pregnancy Prevention: Empowering them with the tools and information to make informed choices and avoid early pregnancy.
Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, these adolescent girls are gaining the skills and confidence needed to advocate for themselves and their peers. Together, we are building a generation of informed, empowered leaders!
